Privacy policy
urtube helps you meet people through shared viewing interests. This page explains how the website and the urtube YouTube Capture Chrome extension collect and use data. Last updated: 2026-09-06.
What we collect
Your YouTube watch history, videos and channels, viewing times, measured seconds watched, search terms and playback progress. Sources include the Chrome extension, Google My Activity syncs you start manually or enable daily, and history archives you import.
Storage and AI analysis
Your records are stored on urtube servers, with search terms encrypted. We do not sell data or run ads or analytics tracking. Public video information, such as titles, channels, tags and descriptions, may be retrieved from YouTube and processed by AI services to organize interests. Private watch events and search terms are not sent to AI.
What you share
Friends can view your Overview, Insights and Blend. Making your profile public lets anyone view Overview and Insights, and signed-in members start a Blend with you. History and Recap require your signed-in account or private access key. Do not share that key publicly. Your sign-in email and search terms are not provided to other members. Your chosen bio and social links appear on your profile.
Friend discovery and public profiles
New accounts enable friend discovery and public Overview and Insights by default. You can turn either off during setup or in Settings. Friend discovery lets members find you and send requests, and includes your viewing in channel rankings and combined statistics. Turning it off removes requests and friendships, and your ranking contributions on the next load. A public profile stays public until you change its sharing setting.
Anonymous community statistics
You may separately contribute channel-category percentages to help compare viewing habits. Each person has equal weight, and results require comparable data from at least five consenting members. Statistics exclude names, watch history and matching records. You can withdraw in Settings anytime.
The Chrome extension
The extension records your viewing time on YouTube, opens Google My Activity to read your records during sync, and sends them to urtube. Your connection code and pending records are saved in your Chrome profile.
Google sign-in and profile pictures
Google sign-in requests your account identifier, email and basic profile to identify your account and retrieve your picture. If the picture is missing at sign-in, we request it from Google. If it is unavailable, we temporarily ask Gravatar for one using a hash of your email address, or display your initial. Pictures are served through urtube, so your email hash is not displayed on the page.
Export and deletion requests
You can export your data as a ZIP. To request account and data deletion, email [email protected] from your registered email address. Our team will help with your request.
